Right at the edge of Georgetown, but... Lulu's.

Hootie and the Blowfish played a Halloween party there before their first big hit. Remember thinking they were a fun band, but not much else... and had no idea I'd seen them play live until I noticed the name on a plastic souvenir cup I still use to scoop our dog's kibble out of the bin.

Yeaaas, Poseurs with the creepy window mannequin and the second floor dance floor that felt like it was going to cave in. Good times!

The Bayou and Mr. Days took a lot of my time and money.

Smash (although I guess technically they’re still around….)

In high school I’d skip class to get Manic Panic hair dye from Smash and try to dye my hair before my parents got home and caught me. I’d get in soooo much trouble, and I was the only kid in school with crazy hair at the time so none of the other kids were allowed to be friends with me.

Now I work in a school and it’s hilarious to me how parents actually help their kids dye their hair, even as young as age 6, and you can pick up crazy hair dye in any big box store. How the hell are you supposed to rebel nowadays?!?!

Conran's in Georgetown Park when it was new. Furnished my whole $600/month first apartment from there in 1987.

More from the '80s: there used to be a fantastic vintage clothing store just below M on the east side of Wisconsin. Bought my prom dress dress there. I can't for the life of me remember the name.
