A friend of mine turned me on to buckwheat for breakfast. I think it healthier than oatmeal, and is delicious with a little yogurt added.

I live oatmeal. I go through phases of eating it.

I like barley porridge (hot cereal in US?) a little more than oatmeal one. Add some butter. I buy it from Russian stores.

Bobs Red Mill muesli mix can be made to eat hot.
I understand why people don’t like oatmeal but I’m confused at the “gross” part.

Quinoa is def not hot cereal

Oatmeal of course. It’s the classic (even though I agree that it’s pretty gross)

Oatmeal is not cereal

Oatmeal is the most common "hot cereal" which is what OP asked about.

There was another thread on this if you are >30 you think it’s cereal, < 30 you do not.

Whether or not it's "cereal" it's definitely "hot cereal". Otherwise, what would hot cereal be? Fruit loops with siracha?

Are there really people who don't think of oatmeal as cereal, but do think of hot quinoa or grits or cream of wheat as cereal? I have trouble believing that.

Oatmeal is my favorite, but I also like Wheatena.

If you can find it, Flahavan's Irish Oatmeal Porridge is delicious! So creamy and much better than regular oatmeal (Quaker).

Lumpy cream of wheat with a little salt and a lot of brown sugar is perfection on a snowy Saturday morning.

So good

How do you make the oat bran? Literally just the oat bran boiled with water...? And then add fruit and nuts? I'd think eating that much bran isn't good for you.
