I’m sending my 12 yo to sleep away camp this summer.

It would depend on the camp -- if there are vaccination requirements for the staff and other campers, then probably yes, especially if it's an outdoor-focused camp. I'd be a little anxious about no masking, but could live with it given relatively low risk for healthy and vaccinated teens.

If no vaccination requirements for staff and campers, then likely not, as I'm not paying thousands for sleepaway camp that then risks my kid getting sick -- even if mild -- and missing part or all of that expensive experience.

Why in the world would you be worrying about Covid for teens? There is almost no risk to them. Not has there ever been.

There is much higher risk to them if they are fat, anxious, out of shape, anti-social, depressed, etc.

Yup went last year. And luckily it was pretty normal, no covid theater. One of the upsides of a camp run by religious people (we are agnostic but like that this one is cheaper). I’ll send mine again this year. Don’t care about covid and it’s time the rest of you got on that train with me, it’s great over here.

Yes, do start a new thread. But the same gendered sleepaway camps in the NE are the best ones IMO

My 12 yr old went last year and will go again this year. 10 yr old sibling will go this year too

Yes! My kid's camp was closed in 2020 and she was so upset. Last year they had pretty strict protocols and more testing and masking than she would have preferred, but they kept the kids safe and she had a blast. She is very much looking forward to this year.

My two are heading off to several fun camps this summer. They are vaccinated, had Covid over winter break (2 days of sore throat and sniffles), and will get their boosters in March/April. They also went to their camps last summer as well. (We are not covid-cautious. In my opinion, schools should not have mask mandates, contract tracing, or 10-day quarantines. So my views might not be applicable for you guys.)

Camp Hanover in Richmond is great.

Sandy spring in MD is good but twice the price.

Yes, I sent my 13 yo who was super depressed and anxious about covid to sleepaway camp last year and it was the best thing for her. We're sending her and her sister to Overland this year. Do it. It's so good for the kids to feel "normal" and the risk is really small.

OP here. Yes they are vaccinated. Not sure they'd be in a bubble. It's on a college campus where anyone can access it but I know they want to go.
