And more MC parents will tighten their belts and switch to private, or move to neighboring counties.

And next summer/fall, MCPS will announce another drop in attendance.

And they will pontificate, and tweet about it, and wring their hands, and wonder what to do about the corresponding reduction in funding.

It is baffling and a bit scary that there is not a consensus re: this. And the county is adamant that SROs will not be brought back as though it was an SRO who shot a kid in the school. Alexandria brought them back when violence went up and PG kept them all along. WHAT is going on? And if kids are not held accountable re: pro-social behavior, what will be their trajectory after 18? As a society we have an interest in safety for ourselves and in helping kids get on the right track before adulthood, both. Looking the other way is not working for anyone.

Parents! Why are we accepting this? God knows how much taxes we pay in this county and they can't even keep our kids safe?? Why do families of kids who do behave and want to learn have to deal with this? There's only so much we can handle.

We can't have students getting shot and/or robbed in school bathrooms. On the other hand, we shouldn't have or security personnel or SROs patrolling the interiors of bathrooms. Is it feasible to restrict bathroom access to one person at a time? That seems unworkable in a crowded school.

ie, RJ means they will be let back in to torment this kid and maybe others. If I were that kid's parent, I would demand those kids be removed from the school, permanently. And if they don't, and my kid suffers PTSD, I would sue them to cover the therapy bills, and I would also let every parent in that school know who those kids were.

I'm tired of MCPS not taking these incidents seriously.

Why are the majority of kids who follow the rules and want to learn subjected to this kind of environment everyday? It's BS.

Agree but with Twain closed there is nowhere to remove them to. If there was the response might be different.

If the parents of that kid can afford it they should go private. Therapy can't help PTSD until safety is established.

Right. As a PP said, the child got mugged. By a group of people.

He didn't just hand his shoes over. He was threatened and afraid.

The perpetrators should face suspension and compensate them for new shoes. I know I wouldn't want them back; every time I put them on my feet, it would be a reminder of the incident.
