DC may run out of math classes to take by year 4 and is required to take math every year of HS.

If that is DC’s trajectory then MCPS has an obligation to find a math class. That may mean paying for a college online course, a class at MC, a class that is offered at another high school, or DC takes an elective like AP Statistics. DC and parent should be talking with high school counselor to come up with the plan.

I should add, MCPS could pay for private school tuition if a program is found that meets DC’s needs that MCPS cannot provide.

There is a finance class that counts as math. MCPS is very unlikely to pay private school tuition to cover math beyond MV calc. The top MCPS kids do take Calc BC sophomore year but that is because they were offered Algebra in 6th not because they took a summer class.

I disagree with this. My daughter and I (30 years) ago both found Honors Algebra 2 the worst. If you can survive that, you can survive anything.

Can’t he take that if he takes BC calc in junior year? Does anyone require multivariable calc as a prerequisite for stats??

AP Stat is easy - many kids who never take calc at all or only take AP AB Calc take AP Stats. Multivariable is def not a pre-req for AP Stats.

It's really not. Show me what percentage of high schoolers are taking Multivariable Calc.

Why can’t he take AP Calc BC junior year and the AP stars senior year?

I do not understand why you are doing this. I went to the math magnet and now have a graduate degree in applied math..i got 5's in BC calc snd AP stat too, and took multivariate calc. I still wouldn't try to take an important class like precalc during the summer. Math just should not be rushed if he truly wants to understand. Unless he is off the charts brilliant and his current curriculum isn't challenging him at all. But that actually rarely happens in public hs schools in the dc area - plenty of advanced really smart kids.

Why rush it? A solid understanding of math is so much more important than rushing ahead. Take AP Stats as an elective when it fits in the schedule.

Not sure if Montgomery college dual enrollment offers any option.
