The parents are generally the ones paying, so they should rightly be offended that this seems to be a systemic problem at Potomac. Not sure how one student talking to Virchow will change this?

This is starting to sound like it is a widespread problem.

My DC is in US and trust me it is way more stressful to not know where you stand versus knowing. TJ caliber kid, by the way.

Well, we definitely signed up for the US tour for our 8th grader. The other two families at the tour also brought along their 8th graders. We would be happy if the descriptions at the tour did not match the reality, or we just misunderstood the guide.

Actually, I find these discussions very informative and helpfully. We were considering Potomac upper school. Over the campus tour, the admission staff mentioned that the school aims to downplay the concept of grades, hoping to help students feel less anxious and focus on learning. Sounds reasonable. But he went on to say that, as such, grades aren’t communicated as often to take the pressure off. My spouse and I stared at each other, shocked. Not sure whether the incident in OPs post is a one-off, or reflects a common pattern in Potomac US.

Stop the gaslighting! By the time people post here, they and their DCs are frustrated.

Why aren’t parents complaining? This is crazy for such a high price tag plus just in general bad practice of teaching!!

+1 I’m sure there are some issues with this (my student hasn’t had any, but teacher practices obviously vary quite a bit), but they should be handled through the multiple channels available instead of being held in with unresolved frustration. Start with student and advisor, and work up from there if necessary.

Oh I’m at another private and delayed paper and test return has been going on for years, pre-Covid. I continue to be pretty shocked that nothing has changed.

We have been warned by other parents to steer clear of the person you mentioned.
