Not true. Also a nanny and I make that much in the DC metro area.

most families (with infants etc.) are likely to want an experienced nanny over a young nanny.

There are literally people who don't require their nannies to drive...anywhere. They have a car service or the nanny is strictly live-in and for live-in activities. So they don't care about her driving record - especially when good nannies are in short supply right now.

I've worked in several states, some in the DC area and some not. Every family has wanted to keep their children's pictures to just family and me. I wonder about the parents who don't care.

If you really wanted to grow, when I was a new mom I would have loved a nanny with car seat expertise. I could see being a car seat technician as being a HUGE asset. Not necessary though, but if you were going to do one thing for your development, I would do that.

The problem with all the post partum or infant and toddler kinds od classes is all of that feels so subjective-like it depends which “camp” of parenting you fall into.

If you have existing foreign language skills you could beef up, that would also be a huge asset.

Oh and my favorite regular sitter is your age. I'd totally hire her as a full-time nanny if I could afford one and if she didn't have a day job.

+1 You make $35/hour because you've gotten raises over the years with this family, and because there are 4 kids. Starting over with a "forever family" likely means one infant, or an infant and a toddler. If you're aware you have to start lower, you should be fine (I would have no problem hiring someone 47 with lots of experience), but you can't expect to start over, likely with someone hiring a nanny for the first time, at the same rate you're making after a decade of raises with a family with 4 kids.
