5 I don't think there is a DCUM "tone". Every possible attitude, belief and opinion is available here. Anonymity emboldens some people to say things that are mean or outrageous or just plain wrong but none of that bothers me because I get it. It's very easy to ignore what you don't like or value.

3 At what age did you move to the DMV and why? 19- for a one year internship with Bread for the World
4 Did you or are you planning to retire here? No, once DH retires we are out of here and headed back to New England
5 Does the tone on here bother you? Sometimes, I like some of the bluntness, but I don’t like it when it crosses over to meanness. I am tired of the political talk everywhere.

3. I lived in DC until college in Chicago, then moved to NYC and SF and NYC again and then back to DC to raise my family (11 years ago). I thought it was a great place to grow up.

5. Sometimes but I feel like I am fairly good at not getting trolled. I have participated in a lot of forums like this that are non anonymous and I much prefer that.

5 Does the tone on here bother you? - It’s part of what makes DCUM DCUM. Some people bother me for sure and I try to cancel out the bullies with genuine advice in the relationships and expectant moms forums. But the tone is also what creates the absolutely hilarious dcum moments I’m always coming back for! So pros and cons but it wouldn’t be the same without it

3 At what age did you move to the DMV and why? Age 3 but my parents lived here before I was born and both sets of grandparents lived here
4 Did you or are you planning to retire here? Part of the time. We already have a second home where we will spend half our time. But it will also depend where our kids settle. Neither are in DC now.
5 Does the tone on here bother you? Not usually, it’s a window into how others think and helps me get outside my rich white person bubble

Came to suburban DC after being overseas for several years.
Will retire here. Or at least keep a place here. I don't understand people who spend a lilfetime establishing connections only to give it all up when they have more time.
I love this site. I have gotten so much good advice. It has made me more self aware and also paranoid. I can vent my frustrations anonymously and look for information as well. I'm a loner so it also gives me a sense of having social connections.

Personally, instead of wondering where people are from it would be more helpful to know their gender and race. There are lots of presumptions that DCUM is all white women and it would be good to have a better idea of how true this is.

3. 21 a week after college graduation to work on the Hill (degree in Politics). My mom and dad met in suburban MD and I have extended family still there.

3. We have lived in the DMV four different times. My dad was military. My DH is a fed.
