Does anyone notice that the subtitles are quite different from what people say? at least they are in the Spanish cartoons we've tried on Netflix. Like completely different choice of words, such as they say out loud "soprendido" but the subtitles read "asusto."

I am interested in adding a few new tutoring clients. I am happy to help your child with Spanish or even you! I am a native Spanish speaker with a BA in Spanish from Dickinson College. I am currently teaching 7th and 8th graders, but have experience with younger children. I strongly believe in and enforce communicative Spanish, so most, if not all of my tutoring will be in Spanish. I’m the person you’re replying to, I don’t suggest Spanish with Spanish subtitles for her level. She won’t understand and will get bored and stop watching. English with Spanish subtitles would help her associate written Spanish words with their meaning. Spanish with English subtitles will help her identify words in Spanish. These are two different skills, and both would help in different ways. I personally don’t like to watch things that are dubbed in another language, so I’d advise her to find shows she’s interested in, watch them in the original language, with subtitles.
