In this context (good day wishing text accompanied by a selfie), I don't think it's weird at all. Instead of a video of his wishing you a good day, he sent you a text and a selfie.

It would be weird if he'd sent you a selfie without a text.

My friend’s husband used to have her take photos of him at the beach and can actions…which he would then send to his AP. She thinks she likely took his online dating pic w/out her knowledge.

Honestly I’d wonder how many other women received that selfie. IMO guys who proactively send selfies have issues. Not a dealbreaker necessarily, but I agree it’s weird and makes sense to pay close attention to other behaviors.

I met a guy d we ho wanted me to take selfies in my ‘jammies.’ He sent a lot of selfies w/ his cat… That was weird, and I’m a cat lover. Op’s friend seems harmless

I am talking to a 50s man (maybe its you PP??) and he sends me selfies of him laying in bed with his dog snuggled up ... nothing inappropriate but boring to me!

I'm 39 and I think it's weird, but also I have not been in the dating scene for the last 20 years (pre selfies).

I'm an old man and I send selfies, especially if I am dating a young woman because they love them. They are more interesting than OP's selfies: me at the Grand Canyon, me on Las Vegas Blvd, me on the side of a mountain.

I received selfies like this from a guy before, and each time they popped up in a text unexpected, it felt really weird. I guess it’s because I myself wouldn’t take a random selfie in a restaurant or on the golf course or on a boat and send it without it being part of an ongoing dialog. It felt like he sent the selfies to keep him on my mind and maybe make me jealous of his lifestyle? He ways selfish in other ways too and I broke it off.

A few reasons have been explained above. To summarize, it makes people feel closer. Same reason people FaceTime instead of talk on the phone.
