I'm not a UCLA parent, but I live near UCLA and am an alum. I agree that you don't need a car, but if your kid has a car, just a beat-up old car even, it would be wonderful for them. There is so much to see in Los Angeles and in Southern California in general.

OP I hope your DC does apply to UCLA. Here is the bottom line: No one regrets going to UCLA.
