If MCPS has a cutoff for closing a school, the MCPS Athletic Director has to make a stricter cut off for benching a team. We can have 2500 students in a building for classes but no spectators, including a limited number of spectators in a gym, or even more ridiculous - masked in an outdoor stadium. Students and staff do not need vaccinations for school but school athletes need to prove that they are fully vaccinated.

There’s no explanation, just one person with complete power to make his own rules and restrictions.

MCPS’s entire approach for COVID has been extreme from canceling graduation in 2020, to online learning for all of last year, to no winter sports last year, to banning all spectators this winter. MCPS doesn’t care about what this does to diminish a child’s high school experience.

Because requiring proof of vaccination at restaurants does not make anyone safer. It makes no difference.

This is exactly why requiring vaccines for any reason - to enter a restaurant, to watch a HS basketball game, to play a sport - is ridiculous and useless. It doesn’t make anyone else doing those activities safe from Covid.

If indoor dining is unsafe, then vaccine mandates don’t make it any safer. That’s the point.

MCPS Athletics is a one man show directed exclusively by Dr. Sullivan. No oversight whatsoever by Dr. McKnight.

For example:

- Schools meeting for in person learning are at full capacity yet athletics is banning spectators.

- Schools do not require COVID vaccinations for students and staff yet athletes are required to show proof of being fully vaccinated.

The Board really should bring MCPS athletics under the MCPS umbrella so there is consistency across all programs in the school system.

What the heck??? It’s being held outdoors. It’s safer than when MCPS students eat lunch together indoors or when high schools clump hundreds of students together in an auditorium because there’s not enough coverage for staff that’s absent.

MCPS athletics sucks, simply sucks, if they do not consider the impact on students by such boneheaded decisions to bar spectators from watching an athletic event especially those that are outside.
