I don't know for sure, but I had a family member who was an assistant AG in another state, and while he was not a political person, it was considered a political appointment.
I just googled Ms Hardiman. She has a very large BLM banner at the top of her Linkedin page. So, it would seem that she is quite political. (I've never seen anything like that on a Linkedin page.)

Do you understand what it means to have summarily fired the entire civil rights division.

Oh I think the poster does. The poster most likely is one of those Charlottesville marchers. I am sure we will see a bunch of confederate statues going back up soon.

I suspect it is more than the number reported and is the entire Civil Rights Division. A unit within civil rights with which I’d worked very closely was completely axed. All three attorneys and one member of the support staff of that unit were fired yesterday. One has six-month-old twins and was a career AG employee.

I also know the incoming person who is taking over those cases, and I’m the one who told that person that the people who knew anything about the relevant cases had been sacked. They aren’t cases that the AG can just drop, either.

I get that new administrations change things, but this was just cruel and classless. Also stupid. Not a great sign.

The knee-jerk reaction here without even checking facts is hysterically funny and at the same time sad.
It's like a 2022 version of the game Telephone.

I work for an AG and the staff changes generally are only the higher ups and political appointees, not entire divisions.

Miyares is now walking back his plans to gut the office. Probably thought it would get buried in weekend news and didn’t realize it would get reported so quickly.

Oops.

Calm down. The "entire Civil Rights division" was not fired.

Louise Lucas is being alarmist and hyperbolic as Democrats have a tendency to be.

He is under no obligation to keep staff that worked under Herring.

Jason Miyares, Virginia's incoming attorney general, is shaking up staff ahead of taking office on Saturday.
Miyares, a Republican, will take over from Democratic Attorney General Mark Herring, who was narrowly defeated in the November 2021 election.
On Friday, Miyares' team said he made 30 personnel changes, including 17 attorneys and 13 staff members. Those attorneys include the solicitor general and deputies that served under Herring.

Victoria LaCivita, a spokeswoman for Miyares, said Lucas' comment was incorrect and that only two personnel changes were made out of a 12 person office.

LaCivita later tweeted that Miyares will analyze and evaluate the entire Office of the Attorney General following his inauguration, then will announce further changes.

According to Miyares’s spokesperson, 17 attorneys and 13 staff members have been fired. This is out of the 523 people who work in the Attorney General’s Office. A total of 649 people report to the Attorney General.

The spokesperson said current Attorney General Mark Herring’s deputies and solicitor general were among those let go and Miyares has named replacements for those positions.

A tweet from the spokesperson stated that “personnel changes” were made for two of the 12 people who work for the Office of Civil Rights. This response came after Sen. Louise Lucas tweeted claiming the new attorney general had fired the entire office.

LOL @ trying to pretend you can support the gutting of civil rights without being a racist.

It's unfortunate, but that is the price to be paid for punishing children and working families by keep schools closed. You reap what you sow. Maybe it will be a wake up call.

It doesn’t have to be. That you are okay with this is about you. You can’t blame your own racism on other people.

DH and I have both done some pro bono civil rights cases and we've both received emails this morning looking for help with cases that this office was handling. Apparently tenants in Virginia aren't going to have enforceable civil rights anymore.
