I used to work with a guy who had his first when he and his wife were both 26 or 27 and everyone at our office acted like they were teenagers who got knocked up accidentally and had a shotgun wedding lol.

Had my first at 28 and seriously felt like a teen mom.

My friend had her 4th and last at 45 (without ART.) Now she’s OLD.

I think average. I had mine at 33 and 35. I remember that I asked my obgyn about being of advanced maternal age for the second and she was like, oh I guess technically you are but I don’t think of 35 as advanced around here.

I’m 43 now and a lot of moms I know seem to have had kids at the same age I did. I feel like I’m right in the middle of most moms I know. A few are older and a few more are younger (like they had their first kid around age 30 or so).

no, i live in dc, and i'm older than 34 and a professional. i just don't believe that the average age for having a first child in this city is considerably older than 34. 34 is not on the "young" age for having a first child here. average? probably. but not young.

A couple of years ago the average age for a first time delivery at Sibley was 37.

Here's a pretty recent article (2018) where a Sibley spokesperson explains that the high rate of C-sections there is because "the average age of a woman giving birth there is 35." It doesn't say first baby, and it doesn't say 37 either. And it's pretty obviously the hospital in the city with the oldest women giving birth.

I was 34 and had my only child 29 years ago. The doctors then in DC showed all the charts about odds of Downs Syndrome + freaked me out.

42. I would consider that on the older side. 40 is not unusual.

I felt very young with my first at 28, and even my second at 30. My 3rd was at 34, and I feel middle of the road age-wise at her preschool.

Average to you for bio and very young for first time
adoptive mom.
I have several friends who were 45-50 for adopting first child.
