I'm saying OP made it sound like the teacher only told half the story and I don't think that's the case.


I am OP. I didn’t say that. I reported what my DC came home talking about. DC now continues to talk about people or things getting “killed” which frankly isn’t making me very happy.

I am sure his teachers did their best to present everything in an age appropriate way. But it’s tough to learn about something as dramatic as someone being killed for the first time, I suppose.


PP here. I will also note that it might not have even been his teachers. Possible it came from some other kid.

This is what I've said. My first grader has for years latched on to the fact that MLK was arrested many times. I've explained to him that because making big changes to make society a better place sometimes requires breaking the rules that currently exist.

Funny story: the other day he saw a group of 10 or so women walking together down our block and he wondered where their voting rights protest signs were. He was 100% serious.
