Not correct. Rolex is a very accurate mechanical watch. I think most have COSC certification, which requires them to be accurate with plus or minus two seconds a day. Sure, a digital watch likely will be even more accurate, but saying that a Rolex isn’t accurate is not really true. There’s also an aesthetic consideration. Some people like to wear a nice looking watch. Sounds like OP’s husband is one of those people.

OP, my DW got me a watch as a wedding gift years ago. Not a Rolex, but another high-end brand. I never really wore a watch before then, but have worn it daily ever since.


Sorry, you’re wrong: General wearing habits like temperature and wrist movements will influence the movement and change its accuracy.

My Rolex keeps such terrible time that I stopped wearing it. Also know that they recommend they be serviced every five years and that service was $750 the last time I did it. I regret buying my Rolex even though I still like wearing a watch and still like the look of it.

Rolex do hold value (and are increasing recently as PP said) but there are other great brands to look at. I would tell your husband your plan and let him pick one out. I have a glashutte and IWC. Wouldn't want a Rolex. I would like a Patek or A. Lange next but that may be decades down the road.

Rolex is aspirational.

It reminds me of the small Lexus SUV that you see older middle class people driving. It is kind of nice, appears classy, but it is not actually portraying what they hope it is portraying.

In about 2008 I traded my Omega watch for a phone to tell time. In 2020 I went back to a watch, but it was a fitbit (not even the high end one). The watch is in a drawer.

I honestly don’t care what he is getting me. He got me many many gifts over the years - studs, engagement ring, tennis bracelet, I have everything. I inherited Cartier watch from my grandmother who passed 5 years ago, so I am all set with jewelry and watches.
