I liked Affleck's performance. I thought the kid(s) were great and I liked the attention to detail in terms of clothes and cars etc being absolutely spot-on for the time period. I was 12 in 1983 and remember those ruffle-neck blouses well.

But it was also a little like seeing a movie FROM that era. Slow, a bit aimless and nothing really happening. and yes, someone else said, a little schmalzy.

I loved Ben’s deep voice in this - often, he sort of goes into a higher pitch, but not in this role. He was great.

The older and younger JR looked nothing alike - that was a major flaw, IMO.

I was SO happy JR didn’t wind up with Sidney - she was awful, as were her parents.

Very Good Will Hunting-esque, but not nearly as good.

Well. Ben did not win best supporting actor

Nicole Kidman did win best actress for Being the Ricardo’s.

I watched it from home yesterday with low expectations having read the reviews first. I was pleasantly surprised. It was not great but it was entertaining and kept my interest. I don't like Ben Affleck much but I liked him in this. I liked the music. I did not like all the swearing although I swear myself a bit, but the F word coming out of little kid's mouths kind of puts me off. Overall, though, I liked it.

Compared to Being the Ricardos it was fantastic. I stopped that one twenty minutes in.

I couldn't get over how much Affleck looks like a young Clint Eastwood in this movie - absolutely spooky.

I loved this WAY more than The Ricardos - I felt that, unless you really liked I love Lucy, that it was just so-so - Tender Bar resonated with me much more (and I didn't grow up anywhere near Long Island).

I was impressed with Affleck (words I've never said before) and liked the older JR actor. The soundtrack was familiar and great. All that said, I don't know how I'd feel if I drove to a mall, maybe got babysitters, paid $25 for popcorn, all in preparation to watch this movie. Maybe the bar is much lower while watching in my sweats from my comfy chair.
