Henry is a great name. Popular but not overdone.

Where are you from and why would you say this? It was the 9th most popular boy name in 2020.

+1. I love the name, but it has peaked to the point I almost find Ryan "refreshing."

Mom of 5 and 8 year olds here. I don't know a single Ryan. I know 6 Henries. Does that help?

I have a Henry. There are a LOT of kids named Henry. That doesn’t bother me as my husband and I also have very common, easy to spell, short first names to go with our long, hard to spell last name.

I think I know 7 or 8 young Henry’s, and I’m not a person who like knows a lot of people, lol. It’s a nice name but I’m astounded by how popular it seems. I’d do Ryan

I know 6 Henrys under the age of five, and only 1 Ryan. Honestly OP I think with a last name like Smith you should try for something with a little more charm or pizzazz. This is like naming your kid Human Child.

But if forced to choose I'd go with Ryan. Henry is just too popular in this area.

Ok, I was going to say that you need an Irish last name with Ryan. But Smith ups the ante. There are going to be 1000 Ryan Smiths. Of the two, I prefer Henry. (Full disclosure, my mom's maiden name is Ryan and it is still weird to hear it used as a first name.)

What about Hunter? Declan? Quinlan? You have more leeway with Smith than with a more burdensome last name.
