I love my kids dearly and we’ve enjoyed the extended winter break, but they and I would’ve been happy with a physical return to school today. Not sure why people project so much on parents wanting kids in school. It’s an important social-emotional component of childhood. It doesn’t mean I don’t care for my kids—quite the opposite!

Oh yeah, the numerous 'I'm so depressed I have to interact with my kids for an extended period' threads says otherwise.

My kids and I went sledding, baked cookies, watched movies, etc. It’s been a blast but they need school.

+1.

Seriously. This is not only Day 5 but follows a two-week holiday break. They haven't seen most of their friends in 3 weeks since we were travelling over the holidays.

Stop having hissy fits and acting like this is personal. You did notice that every school district in NoVa has had the same closures, don't you? Of course, kids needs school; schools exist for a reason. However, if children cannot safely get to school because of the weather and its impact on transportation, and if schools cannot be staffed because of the same reasons, then schools cannot open. Show some common sense for once and stop acting like it is all about you. Your kids will be better off for it. Complaining about it does them no good and only shows them how to be weak whiners like you, and not strong and resilient kids.

And to suggest otherwise means that you’re a racist who should be named and shamed. Kidding.

We didn't have one (Elementary). We did have a webinar with Dr. Hutchings - not really anything new except they ordered Kn-95s for teachers and students and explaining the CDC 5 day quarantine thing. I thing they need to revisit opting out for testing instead of opting in. We have a really good testing setup but it is being seriously under utilized.

Someone mentioned on another thread that Virginia can’t do opt-out testing by law like DC. I haven’t verified though, maybe someone here can.

PP teachers - thanks for providing some insight into the webinar. Much appreciated.

Each day is something new and different with this system. Here’s tomorrow’s closure announcement. So, is it another bogus virtual day or have they basically scrapped those? Maybe they finally realized those no longer count as school days under the new state legislation.

All ACPS schools and offices will be closed, 1/07/22. All activities in schools or on school grounds are canceled. All essential personnel, including building engineers, custodians, maintenance shop employees and security staff must still report if safe to do so.

Visit the ACPS website at www.acps.k12.va.us for the most up-to-date information. Thank you.

They gave a reason...you just don't like it.

This was the message - please point out the reason given:
"All ACPS schools will be closed for in-person and virtual learning and extracurricular activities tomorrow, Thurs., Jan. 6, 2022. All staff will participate in a virtual workday."

Right, they did not give a reason. If the reason was that some roads are still unsafe, or they did not have staffing due to COVID, I take no issue with it. I just want an explanation.

ACPS teacher. We received the same message and lack of explanation. According to my admin staff absences would have made it hard for our building to operate. Also, when every other school division except Dc is closed it makes it easy to follow that lead. The webinar mentioned by PP explained changes to CoVId procedures. Also mentioned possibility of test to stay program which would be game changing.

DCPS is looking through the results of mandating negative test results now so it will be interesting to see what they decide. Philly, which did not require testing for all already has 92 out of 216 schools go virtual this week because of Covid related staffing shortages.

A few charters in Dc closed because of staff shortages, but most schools were open today.
