"me me me"

Is that not obvious?

It's interesting that you say that. While I do not support this move, I understand their position. Teachers in America have been vilified by the right for decades now. Teaching used to be a respected well paid career. Now, parents go to school board meetings to disparage them. I hope teachers protest across the country.

What do crazy parents in the South have to do with crazy teachers in Chicago? The only thing they have in common is that both groups are utter fools. Going on strike unless covid disappears is idiotic.

I really hope this triggers a nation-wide restructuring of how we run our schools. In short, I hope the teachers’ unions stop having any power and that schools become able to pay good teachers more who aren’t in the unions. DC tried doing that many years ago and it flopped because the union was too powerful. I hope citizens demand it now.

I think there are a lot of people who share this evolution of belief after last year.

Yup, like 75% of the Democratic parents I know... (Not that they are flipping parties or anything, but they now hate teachers unions.)

Yeah, I think the majority of parents had this revelation in 2020 regardless of political affiliation. I'm glad they won't be paid and it's considered a 'work stoppage'. If your job was proven to be completely ineffective and potentially damaging while done virtually - and you decide you are only working virtually - you have essentially breached your contract.

They actually voted to strike. It needs to be called what it is.

I’m in complete shock. Not that a teachers union is acting selfishly and without any regard at all for the kids (that’s been obvious to me for years), but that I can actually agree with Lori Lightfoot about something. I honestly never thought I’d see that day.

They are. Question is …..will Biden call them out?

Doubt it -- his DW has been creating teachers for years.

Huh? This is a local not national, or even state, issue. Mayor Lightfoot did the right thing and should get kudos. President Biden has nothing to do with this and is appropriately not getting involved.

Local issues have NEVER stopped Biden from getting involved.
Randi Weingarten has been very involved with this administration in guiding policy regarding schools reopening.

It is time for Biden to speak out - loudly and assertively - that schools need to remain open.

Democrats are toast in 2022 unless they call out the closings. Good on Lightfoot.

The stats are not on the union's side.... kids don't contract the virus at school as much as they do at home.

IMO - the teachers should not get paid for this time off.

Ehhh... in looking at the data on where outbreaks happened, the two top places contributing to spread have been schools and indoor dining.

Is deep blue Chicago full of nut job Trumpers?

Someday people are going to have to learn nuance.
