A birkin is not an evening bag, so it never goes out to dinner with me. Brunch/lunch/coffee yes, and it goes on a chair or on the floor. It's a tote bag.

Sell it and buy a nice fake one. The gifted will never know and you won’t have to live your life trying to protect a very expensive handbag.
I don’t think there’s a cool way to carry those any more but if there is, it’s probably to treat it roughly.
The point is what do people do with their high end bags - substitute with Chanel, Celine, whatever. I normally take a crossbody or clutch out to dinner and never cared about putting something like an LV Neverfull on the floor.
