The answer is in the letter:

“As our practice has been for the entire year, we make decisions related to virtual learning primarily on classroom and school data. This data can change rapidly and families must be prepared in the event that their child’s class or school moves temporarily to virtual learning.”

Yeah— parents— the details are right here.

You have to know that “data will change”. Everyone knows this. They just can’t move to virtual preemptively.

I wouldn’t exactly called this detailed. What are their specific data metrics for when and how things might pivot?

Per the email, absolutely nothing different goes into effect til 1/17 at the earliest to allow time for “data.” Nothing different heading back than we did before break.

I don’t think that’s true. After a few days If a class or school has a sizable amount of kids out they’ll make the class/school virtual. I know APS has a threshold but I don’t remember what it is.

That has always been the case. Nothing with regards to test to stay or quarantine changes before 1/17. I’m an LCPS teacher. It’s status quo heading back according to that email.

Excessive absences won’t trigger a temporary return to virtual. It would be triggered by documented transmission within a class or classes (going back to the risk matrix from the spring of this year) or by so many staff illnesses in a school that classes could not be covered.

This. The cases have to be related to one another/transmission connection proven. If a couple kids in the same class got Covid from outside sources, it doesn't count. We had a class this fall where 2 kids were positive and 8 were quarantined. The class did not go virtual.

What is LCPS doing differently than other counties in the area? That can’t be your only reason for moving there

From a covid perspective, absolutely nothing. Protocols are same as every other NoVA locality.

However, if you feel compelled to put it out there is to save your a55 when they go virtual at the end of January…

This isn’t any different than any other county in Virginia. State mandates in-person learning, but changes may be made on a class or school basis, depending on circumstances at the time.
I’ve got a Kindergartener in LCPS, and I am making arrangements at work for the next few weeks, in anticipation of some sort of virtual (or likely asynchronous, based on November’s experience) shift if (when) they run out of subs due to the already existing shortage.

Of course they need to be made. The omicron spike has people wondering.

Screw the law. If LCPS decides it should close (which it should), it should act accordingly.

Next week is gonna be a shit show.

APS will also be in person on January 3.
