We’ve had a litter robot for a couple months. It’s whisker brand which is the expensive one. From what I understand it’s the cheap, knock-off brands that are known to kill cats, not whisker. We have two cats and it is pretty great but not perfect. Obviously the main advantage is that I’m not scooping poop all the time which for two cats I really needed to do twice a day, sometimes three, to keep the stink down. This has eliminated the stink. We go through a lot less litter which is also nice. It has never jammed. The downside is that the bowl seems kind of small for my small cats. They regularly poop on the opening ledge which I then have to wipe up. It’s like one of them doesn’t really like going all the way in so their but is outside the robot and they kind of poop and run. From time to time it also goes off-line so it doesn’t cycle and I have to reset. I feel like it needs a certain amount of babysitting which I don’t love but overall the benefit of not scooping poop all the time and the odor control is worth it so far.

I was slightly interested in getting one but probably won’t. I don’t want another appliance that needs to be maintained that will break down at some point.

And as another person mentioned, I am concerned about cats getting injured/killed in it. Scooping manually and vacuuming the surrounding area is a pretty simple task for me. I feel like I have more control over the smell this way, too.

We've had it for 8 months and had to return it for repair (weeks at a time) twice because it ceases to work. But after making us demonstrate that we've tried all their troubleshooting recommendations, they've sent us a new Litter Robot. I wouldn't recommend it to others. Too prone to breakdown for something that expensive.

I would love to get one but I have read horror stories concerning cats getting trapped/dragged/killed and I just can't risk it (we travel a lot so if something happened overnight, no-one would know) . I've never seen one of the robotic litter boxes- it that even possible or is just fear mongering?? I have one teeny cat, she is just really small and another is just a regular tabby.

We have the Litter Robot 3, and it's pretty loud. It definitely reduces smell though.

Regardless of what method you use, if your cat ever roams outdoors, be aware of litter dust and toxoplasmosis.

We had the Litter Robot 3 and didn't love it as much as others said they did. It was much easier than scooping, but I found it hard to clean, it did jam, and it broke after 2 years. After a lot of research into knock offs, we got the newer version Litter Robot 4, and it's PERFECT.

I've seen mixed reviews on smell. Some say it's amazing, other say it stinks and retains nastiness (which would be a deal breaker for me if true). Also, is it loud when it runs?

I have the litter robot 3. It's ok. It really cuts down on the amount of litter I have to buy. The cat likes to swat at the clumps when it cycles.

One of my cats liked it. The other one didn't.
