We need testing not vaccines. Our country is highly vaccinated and that strategy did not work.

Simple, they set up mass testing sites like they did for mass vaccine sites. Only kids who don't have transportation or other valid reasons test at school. MoCo offers free transportation to testing sites so that takes away the transportation excuse.
They can’t even get 50 percent of families to opt in to testing at all. You think every parent wants to drive some distance every morning, wait in the testing line, wait 15 mins for results, then drive off to school because classmate Larlo’s family brought back Covid from their week in Puerto Rico over break and exposed the class?
And who is driving this “free transportation?” The bus drivers are going to get sick just like everybody else and we already have a shortage. Mark my words — there will be issues with busses January 3rd.

It was just for show.
+1 MCPS and DHHS didn’t plan for a winter surge. They aren’t testing students and staff members who have close contact with COVID cases. They also aren’t doing random testing. Great week for MCPS administrators to be on vacation.

Not going to happen. The county testing sites are overwhelmed and so are the commercial/medical sites. Plus no at home tests in stock both in person or online.

Unfortunately, I said yes, my child was in close contact before winter break, and MCPS wouldn’t test. Tweets by school staff give the impression that they can’t get tested at school either.
Perhaps Dr. McKnight placed a call into Santa during her vacation and MCPS will be fully stocked with COVID tests on January 3rd. With staff and students traveling, testing kits will be needed.

The teacher union blocked mandatory vaccinations for all MCPS staff. Doesn’t sound like they follow CDC recommendations.

It was last updated in Nov. to reflect availability of vaccines for 5-11 year olds. It has not been updated for Omicron.

The CDC will need to update the K-12 guidance--that's what MCPS/MDSE follow. I am not aware that that has happened yet - so for now, it will stay as is.

Sorry to say, the CDC messed this up so badly I don’t think anyone will quarantine anymore. It’s over. Good luck to those of you trying your best not to catch this thing.
