I disagree. I think it's good for kids to see their parents exchanging gifts. They don't have to be expensive. We usually just buy things we need (i.e. socks) or things we can consume (fancy grocery items, lotion, etc.). We had a lovely Christmas all around. No disappointments here.

I’ll have none of this, let’s not set the bar so low! Unless you agreed to not get each other gifts, you need to get your spouse a gift for Christmas. Yeah people are going to mess up but responding normally to somebody’s actions isn’t being a martyr.


I dunno, I kinda like the “just do it yourself and quit being a martyr!” mentality. Think we can say it to our Hs when they complain about not getting sex on their birthday? Like just hand them a bottle of lotion and tell him to quit whining and do it himself.


I believe that this kind of hyper-interdependence, combined with equating sex and physical gifts, is a recipe for a utterly unsatisfying marriage for most people.

He got me a cute and useful gift.
He didn't throw a fit like he sometimes does because he has Asperger's and Christmas morning throws off his routine.
He was in a good humor all day.

I'll take that as a win.
