Maybe switch swim teams?

I actually planned what months my kids would be born in.

He can still be good. Just doesn’t have the maturity advantage. If he sticks with it an as he ages, the big advantage of a kid being 11 months more mature goes away.

Agree. And I’m doubtful that OP’s son is expressing any bad feelings about his birthday that is 2 months away. OP sounds a bit overly invested in this narrative.

My kid has an April 29 birthday in a sport with an April 30th cut off. Yeah, people will comment but someone will always be the youngest.

Teach HIM "Hey, I'm happy I was born and that's all I have to say about it!" with a cheery tone.

Ok, why are you allowing people to have extended conversations with your DC about this, especially if these conversations are starting to impact him?

Jump in and say something like, “He loves chocolate, though, so a February birthday is perfect for that!” Just change the subject.

Your swimmer will be old enough for this not to matter before you know it. So he’s not ranked as high right now as he would be if he had a March birthday? In the long run, maybe that’s less pressure and he sticks with the sport longer.

What? They literally age up at the very beginning of the swim season. There is nothing messy about where to place them age wise. Do you actually have a year round swimmer?

How would this make it messy? September is the ideal swim birthday! Over six months into age by short course champs and top of the age group for long course! Of course you don’t think birthdays matter.

We hear the same about my son's November birthday and soccer. I don't know why people feel the need to mention it at all, as if somehow we haven't figured it out after all these years.

Not a big deal. Early February isn’t that bad, TBH.

FWIW, my child’s birthday is roughly a day or two zones and when someone mentions it, I joke that had I’d known he’d be a swimmer, I would’ve crossed my legs an extra six hours.

Seriously, don’t sweat it.
