2 of 3 kids did ED (both were recruited athletes); 1 did EA to a reach. All accepted.

Admitted to ED to a reach in theory (<20% admit) but DC's counselor said it was no more than a high target. SLAC. Originally DC was going to SCEA/REA to HYP and ED2 to the SLAC. But the latter was a better fit, and chose ED1.

Accepted WM in state ED
Was a target in ED. Would have been a reach in RD, because they emphasize ED so much.
So nice to be done!

Applied to reach. Nailed their essay, with strong EC and a stand out interview. Accepted T25.
Stats were more like T40.
Relived.

Accepted at high reach T15 with ~65th percentile SAT & GPA. Unhooked white cisgender male.
Had this not worked,’ED2 would’ve been a solid match where he was >75% and acceptance rate ~25%

Low reach: 75th percentile for scores and GPA but low acceptance rate (10-20 percent)...no hooks. Denied.
Two others at school (one with similar stats and one with lower stats) accepted - I don't think either had hooks. So...it was either the holistic review or bad luck that sank DC's app (3-4 others from the school also deferred/rejected).
Such is life...we move on.

The info about what percentile your child is in is also really helpful in using this advice when my kid will weigh what to do for next year. Thank you, posters.

OP of this comment. Responding to other posters: Kid had a 75th percentile test score and the remainder of the application was inline with typical FCPS admits. Only hook was instate.

I’m not sure. DS stats were around the 75th percentile. Last year the school had a low RD acceptance rate (10%) but in previous years had been closer to 20%. I think it would be a high target/low reach. ED has a much higher acceptance rate which was why he applied ED.
He was accepted.

Only people who are willing and/or can afford full pay do ED. Gives an advantage to the wealthy, but that’s life.

High target/low reach. GPA was right on the money but school admits less than 15% of applicants so by definition it was a reach. Accepted.
