Tv shows were worried about being PC. The whole cancel culture has ruined humor.

Right? Rwanda, Mogadishu, Gulf War, Bosnian War... some of you must have been very young in the 90s to not remember any of these events.

The Gulf War was over in no time, it was a never ending war like Afghanistan. No decade has no war. Overall the 90s were quite peaceful. Compare the 90s to the decades prior during the height of the Cold War. You really didn't worry evry single day that you were about to get nuked by Russia during the 90s. Then when the 2000s rolls around 9/11 happens and you have a 20 year war in Afghanistan and against terrorism all while China keeps rising and stirring up trouble and Russia starts reverting back to the Cold War days under Putin.

The ‘90s were my best decade- high school, college and first job on the Hill. There was no cancel culture, Rs and Ds were friends, even roommates.

And weren’t there always people trapped places - wells, mines?

That’s when I personally noticed the intense news coverage.

I don’t think it was that great. But there was no social media like today. Technology was just starting.

Imagine the meta verse 10 years from now. Today will seem idyllic.

I grew up half in the 80s and half in the 90s, the 80s were way more relaxed. There was a lot less technology, we were just getting computers in the late 80s. We had a lot more freedom than the younger kids growing up in the 90s. I don't know why people are so nostalgic about that particular decade. I will agree that it was a great time to be a college student. There are very few permanent reminders like photos or social media posts that can be used against us. We were allowed to be stupid and say dumb things without being faced with the consequences years later.

The 90s were good for you and your friends, but no—not for everyone. My parents divorced, my dad didn’t send money, my mom worked her butt off and scraped pennies and our “new” clothes were from the thrift store. My friends all had money and did after school dance and soccer and we had none of that. I was always helping my mom with the laundry and getting dinner on the table. I get what you’re saying with the generational effect of screens but not too much, etc. But no, the 90s weren’t just great for everyone.

I loved being a child and tween in the 90s. I was a bit lonely growing up because I had an anxiety ridden, overprotective mother. I wasn’t allowed to go to other people’s homes or the movies, roller skating at. But it was okay simply because I had NO idea what other kids and tweens were doing as there was no social media. The weekends were peaceful and I was able to fill my time playing, decorating my room, etc….I imagine now kids scroll social media and see all the things they weren’t invited to or couldn’t attend. That would have been devastating to me as a kid. Sorry this was very specific reason to love the 90s lol.

We really were free back then!

No smart phones. People actually spoke to each other in person.

This and I'm from Eastern Europe. Life was great. I lived in the moment and had no worried my parents may have had. Going swimming or meeting a boy from neighboring village was exciting. Nothing is exciting now.
