Exactly - I would rather send them a couple hundred bucks when they need it and they can focus on the grades. I don't assume it's for heroin, needles, snuff films, condoms, pot, grain alcohol, meth lab supplies, etc. It's just to get a pizza, some clothes, take a girlfriend out to see a movie. I don't get why so many people forking over $300k for college have a tough-love aneurysm over $1000-$1500.

Chuckles...I am covering full tuition room and board...almost 70k a year and you are calling me cheap??? My kids have no problem covering the rest.

My kids work over the summer and on breaks. They have also picked up p/t jobs near their schools. Anything extra ie sorority and associated fees are on them.

We do $250 a week but as an off-campus junior she buys her own food. She also has a credit card for other expenses if/as necessary.

None. She’s got a nice little savings and checking account that she accumulated from various jobs and she’s also in general a fairly frugal kid. When there has been a need for a slightly larger expense we talked about whether or not I’ll help her pay for it but we don’t send her anything regularly.
