Come on, you misled your kid if they expected anything more than a rejection.

This is NOT a diss on your child, but these schools are EXTREME reaches for ALL applicants.

I did not mislead kid, we fully expected that rejection was a possibility, but at this stage of EA, with their strong stats, they seemed likely for at least deferral. I've been watching stats for a long time.

So sorry--we had a similar experience (outright denied not deferred) this week (not quite Yale-caliber school, but close to it)...the rejection definitely stings. But it does look like schools are rejecting more and deferring less (probably good in the long run...why keep hope alive). I saw some statistic that Yale rejected 60 percent of EA applicants, up from something like 30 percent last year...same thing with the school my DC applied to.

It is tough but these kids are resilient and will rebound...good luck.

Full scholarship for a 1500 SAT? Doubtful unless we're talking about an athlete.

Yale doesn't give merit scholarships. It only gives need based "scholarships."

Sounds like a great kid. They will get in somewhere that will be great.

Awww, thank you! I certainly think so. And, kid likes lots of other schools out there. Some of top choices were ED, and we couldn't commit w/o seeing FA, so we'll see how that all shakes out in RD. Kid also has a couple safeties that they really like.
