Well, your kids certainly weren't going to learn to write well from their parents. That's pretty obvious,

Also, the irony here is that your kids, having done well enough at DCPS to be accepted at a Big3, would likely have excelled had they stayed with DCPS and in the end gotten into better colleges. But, hey, go ahead and put your nose up to Deal and Wilson.

Our kids are at/went to a "big3"

We did not send them for a college admissions bump.

However, the one in college is doing *really* well - very well prepared, the written assignments do not cause any pain and STEM classes are running smoothly.

In other words, they are really well prepared.

THAT is what we are paying for. College Admissions is a total crapshoot these days. Ivys have a less than 5% admissions rate, so NO ONE can count on it. At all.

My sister has been a teacher in Moco for 25 years. She was the one who told me to move my kids to private based on what she saw coming down the road as it relates to MCPS. I'll take her advice as a teacher thanks very much.

I agree that paying for private school in order to gain Ivy admissions is a complete waste of money. Luckily that's not why we send our kids to private school!

I am in no way being sarcastic. I’m quite sure that my kid would get into a better college if applying from our local so-so public. I’m more interested in the K-12 educational experience. Why is that so hard for you to believe?

DP: Actually OP dramatically claimed that the end of all private schools is near (apparently because her kid didn't get into an Ivy). So pointing out that most people are not in private schools for such a dumb and narrow minded reason is actually on point. Only 11 seniors at our school even applied to Ivy league schools. It's just not as big a thing as some posters believe.

I think it's interesting that you have framed college admissions as "washed of achievement" and that the system is "dummying down" because private schools no longer provide an advantage. To frame another way, you can no longer buy your kid a better chance at the college of your choice and your pissed.
