conversely, when I was little the thing that helped me so much was a shade on the window--the flickering light without a shade made me motion sick. I still don't like driving through forests on sunny days. So it might not be the car seat per se but other things about the ride. I also do better when it's cool in the car or a window's cracked.

Thank you! We were looking at the Rava or possibly Maxi Cosi. Second to safety, comfort for our baby is our biggest priority since him hating the carseat is so limiting for us.
Whatever is making him hate it, it’s probably not something that varies car seat to car seat. It’s probably just he doesn’t like being strapped down or the motion of the car or something. I wouldn’t get too fixated on the seat itself.
