Know 2 high stats kids got deferrals, 1570 SAT both, super high GPAs. One has a ton of APs and captain of debate team. The other high IB and international traveler w a niche sport (although not a recruited athlete). One male and one female, one mixed race and another Asian.

DS got deferred last year as well then denied during RD. He is now at another highly respected CS school, on par w MIT. So don’t be discouraged if your students didn’t get the news they wanted today. It will all work out and they will have no regrets.

That's why I like Stanford. They only defer like 10 percent of EA applicants and reject the rest who aren't admitted. Harvard and MIT defer a ridiculously high number. It's not less harsh for the kids, it gives them false hope for no reason.
