Having better neighbors does. Find yourself some decent people to live around and you’ll be okay.

Defund the police.

Is "defund the police" now equal to "move to a rich area"? Because I wouldn't be surprised if it did.

Side note: The left needs to stop slogans where they say a thing and then say "but that is not in fact what we mean."

Right?! Don't push a slogan like "Defund the Police" and then get mad when people think you literally want less police... which yes, that was the goal, correct? I know, fund other programs etc., but not paying for as many patrol officers is definitely part of the plan.

You idiots know no one actually defunded the police. At all.

Call your DC police commander. It worked in our neighborhood in NE.

I wish DC did roving traffic enforcement for running red lights.

DC used to do parking enforcement at drop off / pick up around our charter and ticket anyone who had not fed the meter. Clearly the person was able to hit their quota for writing tickets very quickly.

This is not only an easy revenue stream - but a way to increase safety around schools.

So if people were shooting guns outside of your child's school playground and then carjackings are starting in the neighborhood, what do suggest? And for those who say "Move to another neighborhood - you moved to a bad neighborhood" do you say that because you don't think that people who live in the city outside of Chevy Chase/Tenleytown/Palisades/Forest Hills/Woodley Park, etc.. neighborhoods are not deserving of safety because they are outside of the Ward 3 bubble? Please move out to Bethesda/McLean/Potomac and take your BLM yard sign and Tesla with you....we don't need you in the District. We need people who care about the community.

Thank you for the others who care and are providing insights on who to contact... does the DC Council Education Committee have any influence on school safety? We don't live in Ward 5 so are not familiar with Councilmember McDuffie- good to know that he does not seem to be very responsive. I suppose hiring a private security service to patrol would at least provide more surveillance -anyone's school use a private security service and have a recommendation for a company?

Please take good care of each other and thanks again-

Enforcement? What are you talking about? Are you proposing we allow the police to arrest people that commit crime? This is 2021 in Washington DC. You know the rules. We only pay for restorative justice, violence interruptors or fund grants that provide lattes to criminals.

OP here- I kid you not- here is what they sent out - shootings and car jackings are happening around schools and they send out a "pat on the back" to themselves for crossing guards...

"Mayor Bowser Launches Two New Safety Initiatives Near Schools
School Traffic Safety
This week, Mayor Bowser announced two new safety initiatives near schools:

On Monday, the Mayor announced that the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is now conducting a traffic safety campaign targeting safety in school zones. MPD’s Traffic Safety and Specialized Enforcement Section has developed a plan to target traffic enforcement and education in the areas around schools in each police district.

Then, on Friday, the Mayor announced that six community-based organizations will receive $4.3 million from the Office of Out of School Time Grants and Youth Outcomes to support the District’s new Safe Passage Safe Blocks initiative. The investment will provide an additional 215 safe passage personnel in 7 priority areas across 6 wards and 47 schools. Safe Passage Safe Blocks providers will hire and manage trusted, caring adults to be placed on mapped routes to support student safety as students travel to and from school, while building strong relationships with surrounding communities. The initiative also involves an in-school component, including conflict resolution, mediation services, and community relationship-building to keep students safe and improve student attendance. "

Im so sorry Op, these announcements are a complete joke. Prayers that your family members stay safe.
