We don't have to dance around that. We need to target the young, low-income, inner-city population and give them greater opportunities. Improve the class sizes and infrastructure in their schools. Create more neighborhood-based places for them to go. Send police out to interact with them in a positive way, making connections. Give them job training and help them learn the skills to find and keep jobs Our society hates to pay to be proactive, we only spend money when it's too late.
And, maybe.... just maybe..... do something about the absentee fathers.
I would love to see the stats of how many of these young people committing crimes are from a single parent home.

you just proved the point that it is a political policy problem.Anonymous wrote:The murder rate spiked last year, even in places like Des Moines. This is a people problem, not a political party problem.

You can see this pattern in all democrat run cities. At what point do citizens say enough is enough, these policies aren't working. Letting repeat violent offenders back out to commit yet more crimes with little or no bail puts ALL voters at risk.
And all the folks 18 months ago who screamed abolish/defund the police act like it never happened.
But what I don’t understand is given that the vast majority of the victims are poor POC why isn’t there any outrage amongst that community. The democrats assume they’ll always have the poor POC vote and yet fail that constituency repeatedly. Why the blond loyalty to a party machine that is so condescending don dismissive of their needs?
There is! But marginalized communities often don't speak up. They often feel it won't do any good, or they are afraid to for other reasons (like immigration status concerns). Politicians don't hear them, so they don't care about them. Even if they pretend that they do.

Most of the murders are not being committed by people worried about their immigration status. Quite the contrary.

It seems like some of the recent murders are not in major cities . . . like Waukesha, Wisconsin (a very Republican area) and Oxford, Michigan. How can Republicans do better at stopping those kinds of murders?

Gee, maybe toughen bail and sentencing guidelines?
