fuk-off, all of you.

“It lives in a liberal city!” - no it doesn’t.
“It’s full of backwoods rednecks!” - no it’s not.
“You won’t get any offers outside of South Carolina!” - yes you will.
“Columbia isn’t a very nice city!” - mostly true.

In short, OP, your DC can say they have a college degree but it’s not going to open any doors outside of South Carolina

My DC is a senior in the international business program- this is not his experience at all. This program has opened TONS of doors for him and he's gotten several full time job offers already with major companies (not in South Carolina). He had two great internships, too. From what I hear about his other IB buddies, it doesn't sound like his experience is unique at all, either. I think your experience may be outdated.

People go to such schools to get away from people like you and your undoubtedly equally obnoxious AF spawn.

Funny. I’m from Columbia

There’s a whole sub-genre of cretins who think they’ve made it by leaving their home towns when the problem was always them, not where they come from.

Why are you such a bitter person? It sounds like someone really soured your milk this morning

Why are you such a condescending twit?

DD college senior at nearby State flagship and has visited both UofSC and Clemson a few times. Her take is that academically it is same in that some super hard majors and some super easy majors. Rigor is more around the major than the school. Has had 2 friends go to USC for nursing and then not get in when applying, so be aware. Clemson football weekend was insanely fun and everyone she knows there is very happy. At USC, the city/bar scene was more fun and there are a fantastic amount of student clubs to be involved in which can greatly impact experience. Friends have mixed experienced at USC. DD probably has close to a dozen friends at each school across variety of classes (freshman, etc) and majors except mostly boys at Clemson and girls at USC.

It so DCUM Because in person/irl… Clemson and uofSC have a congenital rivalry.

Also, nobody from UofSC goes to Clemson to hang out with friends it’s the other way around because there is nothing to do at Clemson or better yet they all visit a friend at the college of Charleston.

My best friend is from Columbia and she says locals hate the college, so that makes sense.

Opposite of Clemson.

I was there two weeks ago. It was probably my 20th visit. It is still lacking any particular draw or charm. It does not have that “blue patch in a red state” feel. But some kids might truly love it there.

It is true that every discussion of a town outside of the Amtrack corridor or the Coast of California ends up dominated by people who once lived there but moved away 20-30 years ago and haven’t been back, but they’re sure it hasn’t changed at all.
