It’s definitely been associated as an older woman’s wine. I think it comes from the days of if there was a white available it was only Chardonnay and if there was a red it was always Merlot.

I'm 54 and drink mostly Sauv Blanc. Wouldn't touch Chardonnay with a 10 ft pole.

I guess I also think Chardonnay is too oaky for me.

Are you me?
Can't stand Chardonnay

Or me? Would rather not drink than have Chardonnay.

Pinot grigio for sure. No one I know under the age of 50 likes chardonnary. Most folks I know (including myself) prefer Sav blanc.

+1, although I would choose Sauvignon blanc over either.

Me too

Also - there are fruity unoaked or lightly oaked chardonnays. Chardonnay grapes are not making the wine oaky.

Same but only a Malborough Sav. Hate California Savs.

Pinot Grigio. I cannot stand Chardonnay. I find it’s a really controversial white to offer as your only option. People who hate it really hate it and can’t drink it but even Chardonnay lovers can do a Pinot Grigio.

Don’t like chardonnays but love sauv blancs, then pinot grigios I suppose.

I am not even close to a wine expert. I dislike most chardonnay I have had - no idea if it is “oaky” or what that tastes like, but it always seems too sweet to me.

I love most sauv blancs and some pinot grigios altho those can be too sweet for me as well.

There was a trend there for a whole where they were oaking the crap out of Chardonnays and it was just too much.

As long as it’s cold and not sweet, I don’t care

Depends on the actual wine.

There has been a tendency to go very heavy on the oak in cheap Chardonnay particularly the more industrial stuff out of parts of Australia and California. Not to my taste.

There is also some pretty bad Pinot Grigio out there.

But there are also many vineyards doing excellent versions of both.
