I wear AG and Madewell, mostly. Both are size 27.

+1, same measurements. My Rag & Bone are 28 and are too loose.

The 2/4/6 sizes I can see have changed but the pure inches sized jeans how have they changed? And why? I don’t go into stores anymore and it’s sooo hard to find a pair of pants that fit correctly. FWIW I am in my late 30s and like more high waisted pants.

I am a similar height/weight and generally wear a 29. You don't say whether your size has gone down, but maybe you have toned up or redistributed some of your weight?

Anyway most places have size charts, so you should take your measurements and use the chart they provide, rather than going off the number.

Yeah I mean I think it's all sort of changed in tandem. 26 never meant "this waistband measures 26 inches precisely" it meant "supposed to fit someone whose waist is 26in at their thinnest spot." So, it's always been a little fuzzy. But yeah, the sizes have gotten bigger over the years.

5'6 and 115 mostly 24, sometimes 25. It's hilarious that some brands would have 23 which is just a vanity size for a 24/25.

I'm 5'4 and 115 - some of my jeans are 26 and some are 27. My stomach is flat with visible abs, but I don't have a particularly narrow waist - I'm fairly rectangular with broad hips, shoulders, rib cage, etc.

Unless you have a very straight body type, if you are switching from mid-rise to high-rise, then it makes sense that the waist size you are used to would go down.

But also yes, sizing is just wonky these days.

20 years ago I wore a 27 waist. Nowadays I'm a supposed 24. I smell bs.

White jeans always fit differently.

Funny you say this. I’m 5’8” 155-160 and am typically an 8/29. I have a pair of 29 mother jeans and today I tried the exact same style but in white and they were ridiculously tight and uncomfortable. Why do you think white fits differently?
