As opposed to what, not liking your DC? They are paid and trained to have everyone think that their kids are highly attractice and loved by the school. Don't read too much into the accolades as often it is salesmanship. It ensures that they get the best applicant pool possible. Admiring your child plays right to the parent's ego.

Sometimes there's chemistry between the applicant parent or child and the AD staff, and sometimes there's not. If you find an AD "annoying," it's not necessarily an inherent quality of the AD that's annoying you. Rather, you two have no chemistry. Interpersonal chemistry is a big factor in the admission interviews. When my child's applying to a school, I try to view the AD as positively as I can. A parent's negative attitude toward the AD may be palpable by the AD, and then you might be out of luck and a spot at the school.

Norwood's and WES have very good admissions staffs.

Annie Farquhar was by far the best AD we've experience. Although we declined our offer from Maret, the entire admissions staff was "top notch".

Annie Farquhar is not a "closet snob" - we grew up together and I have never observed her act unkindly to anyone. What you see is what you get with Annie and she is fabulous at selecting kids who are a great fit at Maret.

The Sidwell admissions folks were great--very nice.

16:28 I think it's a big act. I don't want to open up the topic of Maret's W/L rejection. She's a closet snob, BTW.

I think this is a fun thread as long as we don't trash the ADs (and it should probably have a different title). It's a tough job - they have to sell the school but make no promises. So easy to strike a wrong note or to just not hit it off with parents.

Best by far: Annie Farquhar - She was warm and inspiring. She was thoughtful and interesting. She gave us the sense that Maret would help every aspect of our DC grow and achieve the fullest potential....Too bad about the w/l letter with no handwritten note.

Almost as good: Sheridan

OK - no warm fuzzies but professional and forthcoming - GDS

I love it when there's a mistake in a post bashing someone else for making a mistake.

One was a typo. One was an underdeveloped vocabulary.

But I can understand how that is amusing to some people.

OMG this is not mean! These AD's are on such power trips. Many of them are such snobs about families (I know because I have friends on the faculty at several local privates) it's more like a country club than a school. Plus who grows up and wants to be an AD? I would be horrified if my son announced he wanted to be an AD when he grew up. More upset if he told me he was a Republican.

My answer: Sheridan. There was an absolute shrew of a woman there several years ago.

The lady from Sidwell.
