A lot of verbal abuse and anger, by men and women alike. A lot of younger men taking credit for work that older women do. A lot of women in meetings and in life having to repeat themselves or remind people of what they said—because people discount or disregard what older women are saying. It is crazy to see it so so clearly now. Like one of those hidden visual images when we were teens— you stare long enough and the tiger pops out. You’re like wow how did I not see that tiger?! People, the tiger is there and it’s cutting off a major source of value and charm of life (that I think older women bring to society) for all of us.

Yes. I've always been "smart" and not "pretty," so I never experienced much sexualization or direct sexism, but as I've gotten older I've been able to see more patterns that I used to think were individual or isolated and recognize them as misogyny.

Kate Manne's book "Down, Girl" lays it aaall out for those of you who don't see it. Recommended.

I am ten years younger and also see this. Shows that degrade women promote this. I'm thinking Handmaidens Tale, Game of Thrones. I don't actually watch TV but know enough about how women are treated in these to be concerned. I think things will only get worse.

Huh? The handmaid's tale is a cautionary tale. It is a commentary on the dangers of society seeing women's sole value as uteruses and domestic servants. And seeing where we seem to be headed with roe v. Wade I would say it is extremely prescient.

I cannot believe you're just realized this at 54. You're correct, but I don't think I could respect a friend who came to me with this realization at our age.

Woman in her late 40s here. Men have always been a heck of a lot nicer to me than other women. Women tend to gang up on ones who don't conform to a point of view, etc. They also judge each other more harshly than men on many levels and in the workplace especially so.

The last 6 years have thrown this into stark relief. What more proof do you need than the fact that women aren't safe even moving around the world wherever they are.

She said she notices it now because she's not as watched and can be a watcher. I noticed this sh1t when I was a preschooler and saw how men acted to my beautiful mother. Maybe I'm more observant or maybe op is sad to not be as watched as before? I'm close to her age and I look for the good in people. If you're constantly looking for sh1theads, that's what you'll see and the world is full of them. If you look for people doing good works and women and girls succeeding and achieving greatness, your world is going to be inspiring.
