The point about gasoline having a shelf life is real, although I believe that additives exist to extend this. It might be worth looking into a diesel vehicle; these can run on kerosene, which has a much longer shelf life. Diesel engines are mechanically different, though, and there are probably fewer mechanics who are good with them.
