To answer your question, you will find plenty of people willing to take a one day a week job. Try care.com

Not OP but how do you get your hair cut with your one year old? Or have a quiet lunch with a friend? Or tackle a big organizational project?

When I am with my toddler, I am truly with him. Outside playing, reading, making cushion-forts, finger painting, etc.

Thanks but I’m not comfortable with a teen babysitter. I was hoping for a regular nanny or preschool teacher.

$500 in cash.

Not sure why some would think you wouldn't get takers for $25/hr for 8 hours on a Saturday. You absolutely would. I work full-time 45 hours a week for one family during the week and still like to supplement evening date night/weekend day care with other families. It's awesome financially and I don't have kids or a partner to answer to. Just because the schedule may not work for some, doesn't mean it won't appeal to others. Good luck!

I’m sure you can find someone. DCUM Mom’s don’t really know. Just because they wouldn’t do it doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of people who would. I absolutely would have done this in my 20’s. OP, no need to negotiate your rate/hours here; that’s futile. This isn’t the audience. Advertise your job, and adjust if you don’t get any hits.

I think it is entirely possible to get a babysitter for Saturday’s at the rate + the hours you are offering.

Do not let anyone discourage you OP.

+1. For some reason, this particular forum has constant naysayers when anyone posts about any specific job. (Hours are too long, hours are too short, Weekend jobs are hardest to fill, weekday jobs are hardest to fill, etc). Repost on the nanny forum, OP.

Bottom line is $30 is a good hourly wage and six hours on a weekend day is an easy gig.

OP again. Excellent points made here and thank you for your responses.

Okay, how about this: 6 hours, $30 an hour, 10 to 4 or 11 to 5? That way the nanny or teacher could still sleep late and have the evening free with $180 cash in her pocket?
NP here and that has to be good! Geez!! $180 in your pocket every Saturday?! Come on!
The price is fine. Its the fact that she wants some to reserve every Saturday - traditionally the day most people have off for their own families or interests - after a full week of work at a different job. On top of the fact she's asking for the whole of the day, not just like 2 hours in the morning when they can just make the kids breakfast, wash the dishes and leave. Shrug.

She has to find someone looking for extremely part-time hours.
Nonsense. I worked a weekend nanny job, 12 hours a day for both days, for two years. If you need or want the money, you sacrifice 6 hours on a Saturday for $180.

Yes, OP, you will definitely find someone at $30 an hour. There are lots of hardworking women out there without the typical DCUM privilege.
Yes she can find someone. I don't see much DCUM privilege anywhere here. I worked at the restaurant for 25 years before becoming an aide in public school. Both are extremely hard jobs with the aide work being much harder in my opinion. While $30 cash an hour is good money, that amount and a lot more, can be made in a restaurant right now. I got yet another call today about how many reservation they have and if I could come in. I already worked all week and one night. I won't be rested by Monday. Forgot completely that I'm also in MA program for ECE.
Shortly, not enough workers to go around right now. Schools are short of teachers. We didn't even have a certified teacher in the classroom on Friday.
I'm an aide who became the teacher. The teachers make more than $30 an hours. Are they lazy? No, there's a shortage of teachers also.
OP has to pay more because of the shortage of workers.

I think you could find someone for $20-25 if you go with a HS student or college student. Our first sitter was 14 when DD was 4 and she was awesome.babysat every summer for 4 years for u. DD loved her.

No. I like my weekdays with the younger one when older one is in preschool. I really want the hours on Saturday.

I think you can find someone? Can you ask on your neighborhood listserv? Maybe someone knows their nanny wants more hours.

My part time nanny often works either Saturday or Sunday for extra hours for $25/hr.
