I hate these people, the ones whose whole personality is being “snarky” or “sarcastic” and have decided to label this total lack of social skills as “nerdy”. no actually you just suck!
Bring nerdy is exactly that - uncool and lacking social skills. Sounds like this person got it right calling herself a nerd.
As higher ed becomes a status symbol, a lot of people humble brag how ‘nerdy’ they are in effort to seem, paradoxically, cooler, because they think they’re just calling themselves smarter. It’s an annoying trend.

Need must also mean you’re intelligent at least at book smart stuff and maybe some special interests.
No way am I calling someone who chooses to dress dumpy and not socialize, while they are dumb, a nerd.

Back in the 80s, I was called a "nerd" by my cousin because I was smart, cared about my grades, didn't do "cool" stuff like party and drink. Her BF met me and the first thing out of his mouth was, "She's not a nerd at all!". I have been told I was pretty, and apparently, there were several boys who liked me.
I feel like a nerd. I am not socially adept even though I don't seem socially awkward. I can fudge it, but I do put my foot in my mouth a lot. I also love scifi and horror movies, even at 50 something yrs old, and can recite lines from some of those types of movies.

Anyone with any quirky interest calls themselves a nerd. So, the quarterback on the football team who likes Star Wars and the mandolorian? Nerd! The cool girl starring in the school play who wants a PS5? Nerd!
