Why is this?

First the obvious -- Title IX is at least winked at in college athletics so there are more women soccer teams in colleges than men, and there are more scholarships available for women than men. /

Second the less obvious -- Timing really. Most girls are committed by January of their Junior year. Obviously you cannot announce and you do not sign letters until your Senior year, but scholarships for women's soccer are pretty much given out in the next couple of months. For guys the field is still pretty open as guys continue to physically mature well into and past their Senior years.

There are 208 Men’s Division I soccer programs, versus 342 women’s. For the power 5 conferences, there are 29 schools that play Division I Men’s soccer, versus 64 women’s. That should make it clear as to which is actually the greater achievement, without even factoring in the significantly higher number of intl men’s players in Division I vs women’s.

Boys will continue to be pay to play at the college level no huge athletic achievement.

Boys teams get 9.5 scholarships per team. And making a Boys D1 rooster is still a huge athletic achievement, maybe just not a huge financial achievement.

I know plenty of US-born boys playing D1 on scholarships ranging from 50% to 100% and everyone else in the MLSNext world does too. Once your kid gets on a D1 college team, he will also meet boys who played in less high level leagues receiving good scholarships too. If your son is very talented, he will have lots of options.

Haven’t seen many boys commitments, is it a talent issue?

European players often take many of the boys side roster spots. It is happening more and more on the girls side moving forward though.
