My BIL is an artist. And so is his husband. BIL is a solid, level headed guy. His husband, who I love but could never be in a relationship with, is self absorbed and will throw a fit if he doesn’t get his way.

Is he financially comfortable? He doesn't need to be rich, but he needs to be successful enough that he can afford his expenses and save money.
IMO, lots of artists are looking for someone else to pay their way. Either a trust fund or a sugar mama/daddy. I've seen it a lot with my friends who dates artists or people I know who are artists. Plus, there's a lot of woo-woo New Age dilettantes who fancy themselves as "artists."

The poster above you is correct. It's silly and reductive to assume artist = flake/flighty. Or scientist = serious/levelheaded/drama-free. Or fat = whatever you're thinking of, PP. OP needs to get to know the individual.
