I wish I had known that - not getting gas as frequently would be more than worth it to me. She says that not every station has diesel though, so on road trips where she isn’t as familiar with the stations, she has to be conservative.

I’ve had several diesels, and I love the range. I could drive my old Mercedes Diesel sedan to South Carolina on one tank. I never had a problem finding fuel. You can always stop at a truck stop. I’ve had to go around back and fill up with the 18-wheelers before, but then you get a free shower, so it’s all good.

+1. I have a Mercedes ML 350 which is ultra-low emission (Bluetec). Love the big tank.

The 25 gallon tank is standard blue red or not. If you want a Chevy or gmc to last 10 years, I’d get a diesel.

We have a diesel Range Rover. Gets good mileage and the range is great. Also like a PP mentioned, if you tow anything at all (horse trailer in our case) it's much better.

So it's a function of increased mpg vs. fuel cost ... can do the math to get an estimate there, but wondering if anyone has real-world experience and had any issues e.g., trouble finding a station on a road trip or something like that. Thanks!

I’ve never seen a gas station (especially on turnpikes/highways/etc. that does not have diesel.

Don’t get one if you are in/moving to California. They make you get more frequent smog checks even though they are no longer the polluters they used to be and have grandfathered the older models that ARE polluters!

We had a diesel VW Gulf and I hated it with a passion. It needed special everything (fuel, oil changes, caresses) and we had to drive far to get a decent mechanic to work on it. It had good gas mileage, that’s the only positive.
