JMU has a respectable hospitality management program with a strong placement record. They used to have a semester aboad a cruise ship for those interested in that industry--not sure if they still do that.
Might be slightly easier to get into than VT (but not by much!).
Students weak in math can really struggle with "business" calculus (most above average b-schools require) as well as basic stats, accounting and finance (all typically core business school classes).

The high GPA kids that complain about not getting into VT are the kids who took an easy course load, dropped language after sophomore year, and have two free periods senior year. A 4.0 with a transcript like that is meaningless.

If you're not applying for Engineering, you are fine. For all the hype/paranoia, VT had still had a 70% admittance rate last year. It's predicted to be a 64% admissions rate this year, but that's still very high and your kid is well above their mean GPA and SAT. Everyone had stories of somebody's friend who didn't get in with x or y, but every kid I knew directly who had decent GPA/scores got in--and we're one of the competitive high schools. VT runs it pretty much by the overall numbers and is less concerned about class rank than UVA or W&M.
Engineering is more unpredictable.
People who applied early action got in mostly. Tech says to apply EA and not do RD since they fill most seats in EA. All kids I know who didn’t get in applied RD.
Several TJ kids (and from some top Privates) with high stats did not get in EA. Most ended up at higher ranked schools. What VT did was right (waitlist these kids since they were using Tech as a safety).
OP. If you are applying ED, especially out of state, I'm sure they will love your application.
