Oh, OP, my not quite 5 year old loves to wear dresses every day (although she was a scary witch in black and silver for Hallowe’en). She would report that her favourite colours are pink, purple, and white. She loves frilly things, rainbows, unicorns, Barbie, and princesses.

She also was the youngest kid in karate to break 2 boards this weekend. She’s got a mean back kick and uppercut.

She broke the boards dressed up like a sparkly fairy, FWIW.

She’s also funny, smart, strong, and independent. I also imagine she’d tell you that not liking princess dresses is kind of weird or silly.

Yes, it's bad. Let your 5yo wear silly, frilly princess costumes. It's such a short phase. My daughters are 6 & 9 and are over princesses, although the 6yo still has a couple princess dresses for the occasional princess party. Neither ever dressed as a princess for Halloween. Let your 5yo wear a princess dress and tiara and wave a wand around. I promise you it doesn't mean she won't grow up to be a doctor, lawyer, etc.

Also, the main Frozen princess isn't blonde. She has auburn braids (with a white streak!) and is quite a strong character, not a damsel in distress.

I don’t think you are a bad person, but it is bad. You may want to think about getting therapy to understand why it bothers you so much.

Oh I know why it bothers me - because I respect (and want DD to emulate) people who do things rather than people who are just pretty. Same reason I prefer Elena Kagan to Kim Kardashian. But yes, I should recognize it’s a phase, likely fueled by peer pressure, and has little bearing on future interests.

I once knew a little girl who dressed in princess outfits nearly every day of preschool. One day, I saw her playing with the classroom castle/fort/whatever. Her little girl doll was under siege in the castle from the forces of the evil villain. I asked her how would she be saved!?! Were her soldiers coming to help her!?! She said no, she was a mighty princess and she would kill the enemy and save her people all by herself.

Five years old don't have the same emotional baggage that you do. They have no knowledge that princesses were ever meant to keep quiet and only be seen, or why that's a even problem. They aren't aware of poverty or the aristocracy. They think princesses get what they want and get to wear pretty dresses, every little kids' dream.

Newsflash OP. Sometimes pretty women can "do things" too. Kim Kardashian is actually not just pretty. She's gotten super involved in criminal justice issues and has accomplished a lot. To use your own example.

What you are doing is judging women based on their appearance and interests and assuming they bring nothing else to the table other than those things. Which is a you problem and probably some internalized misogyny.

Ya think? Didn't notice SuperMom OP here judging little boys that dress up as Storm Troopers or famous serial killers: it's just the girls who need professionally aspirational and at MOST moderately attractive interests.
