I just used a registry with an $800 stroller on it but you could make contributions towards it. I was thinking it would be perfect for a group of friends or colleagues to all support at any level they desired.

I don’t feel inclined to buy the expensive others, but I do judge if someone has over half a million dollar income with a huge baby registry filled with expensive items.

This doesn’t bother me. Even though they can afford it, if their friends and family want to gift them something “bigger” that’s nice of them. In my opinion you should have gifts ranging from $10 and up.

This is why I'll have two separate registries. One with 30ish items from onsies to diapers to bottles. The other one will have the big ticket items I want. Easier for everyone.

I guess I am the only one who finds the baby registry cringeworthy. 100 people at a baby shower? Do I have to sit thru the opening of all these gifts? I am buying an outfit and calling it “done”. I am responsible for my own children’s material needs and don’t think I need to finance yours. Sorry for my rant and congrats on the baby.

You should for the discount. Why wouldn’t you.

Yes, you put expensive items that you are willing to buy for yourself or that you have family that will buy for you.

Most of the registries that are out there give a discount after the event passes for the list owner to buy items afterwards. I have put items on the list and then after the event passes (wedding, birth, whatever), you often get like 10% off anything left on the registry that wasn't purchased. Then you can use gift cards to the registry store to buy those items or pay for them yourselves.

This is why I always give gift cards to the registry store rather than buy something off the registry. If they wait until after the birth, they can buy anything left on the registry for 10% less and the money goes further. So, they get 110% of the value of my gift card buying after the birth.

I did, because it was basically an easy shopping list for me to get everythign else I needed after the shower. Plus, you get a discount on remaining items usually, so it's nice to get 20% off of stuff!

I really like to gift the bigger items so I appreciate seeing those on the registry.

How many people will you have there? Can they afford pricey items?

I put big ticket items as well as small items. I did pour breastfeeding stuff but bought the adult diapers and nursing bras on my own.

When I see very expensive items on a registry, I always assume they're on there for the discount or for very close or generous family members. As a random friend or acquaintance, I don't feel any pressure to buy the Uppababy stroller or whatever.

+1

As far as pricey stuff - sure. Just make sure there’s plenty of choices at all price points.

What crib costs $2000?

Custom made in the USA. No regrets.

I did it mainly to track items but also if people wanted to go in on a bigger gift. We had a group of relatives that pooled together a d bought us the crib (not a 2K one though!), and my parents bought us the Nuna travel system.
