What teens are having "sleepovers"????


Nothing good happens after 10pm! They are not little kids anymore people.

Most immigrant families we knew did not allow them. They did not do sleepaway camp either. All their kids went off to college. Many went on to grad school/med school/law school.

DS's best friend is an only child. He often comes to spend the night when his parents are going out.

My 12 yo has been to a couple of birthday sleepovers. We never had one at our house. My daughter has never asked. Probably because there is no place to hang out without a parent nearby.

They are so much fun and a great way to bring friendships closer. I loved sleepovers growing up and my daughters love them now.

I don’t know what cousins have to do with it but they also do sleepovers with their cousins.

I have two teenage girls and usually one if not both have sleepovers every weekend. It’s not uncommon for us to have 2-4 girls sleeping in our basement on any given Friday or Saturday night.

Large group sleepovers are the issue. Like whole class sleepovers. Been there.

But sleepovers for a group do close fiends. Awesome. My 13 year olds daughter does a few times a Month. Bonding time. Stay up all night and eat whatever they want. Full breakfast cooked by mom.

Yes watch the sneak outs when they get older. Have alarms on everything. Windows doors etc. But honestly some innocent sneak outs are fun too. But of course can easily go bad. Ah the innocent days

My daughter loved them. Same group of girls. They are grown and still very close today. Lots of time talking and bonding. I loved having the extra kids over too. My son was much less into them.

Thankfully my kid is not interested in them.

I have PTSD from a sleepover where I was bullied and not allowed to call home. Some kids are asses after the parents go to bed.

I did tons and tons of sleepovers as a kid. Even though high school, I rarely spent a weekend night away from friends. It was a ton of fun, lots of bonding, lots of exposure to how other families live. In high school, we even did a lot of co-ed sleepovers at friends’ houses like after prom or when families had kids close in age of opposite genders and we were all friends. We were super “good” kids, so there wasn’t drugs or alcohol involved, but sometimes there was definitely fooling around.

As an adult, I also realize how many pros and cons came with this arrangement for our parents… you either had a night totally off or you were responsible for the well-being of a bunch of teenagers… My kids are just entering the sleepover age and thankfully haven’t seemed interested. I don’t have any bad experiences with sleepovers personally, but I don’t really want to host one, and definitely don’t want to deal with the tired, sugar-high aftermath.

I have an only child and he spent at least one weekend every 4-6 weeks at his friends' house and vice versa. They are fun. Why do kids go to playgrounds, theme parks, etc? Same reason.

They're fun. I think it's good for kids to see how other families live, the day to day stuff (breakfast, bedtimes, quiet time, tv and electronics rules, etc.)

How is fun not a benefit?
